Hexagon Cup Teams Reveal World Class Franchise Player Selections

The inaugural edition of the tournament will feature the best players on the planet, giving fans a great show and solidifying Madrid as the world capital of padel.

Madrid, November 28, 2023 -  Hexagon Cup, the new padel tournament whose mission is to transform the sport of 20 x 10, today completed an impressive list of Franchise players. Top names include the current world number one ranked male and female are amongst the names who will play for prestigious backed teams of RL9 by the Barcelona FC footballer Robert Lewandowski, Team AD/vantage co-owned by legendary tennis player Andy Murray, ElevenEleven Team USA, owned by U.S actress Eva Longoria, and the Team Bella Puerto Rico team, backed by businessmen María Esteve and Carlos López-Lay.

Carlos Almazan, Sporting General Manager, Hexagon Cup, said: "Today is an important day for the Hexagon Cup, as we complete the roster of Franchise players who will participate in the tournament. We are very proud to be able to count on the best male and female athletes of our sport, which proves the ambition of the tournament and each of the teams to make the Hexagon Cup an important in the global padel calendar."

The following player updates follow previous confirmations of the Franchise player pairings of Alejandra Salazar and Paquito Navarro for the Hexagon Team and Martita Ortega and Alex Ruiz for the Rafa Nadal Academy powered by Richard Mille.

Team Bella Puerto Rico:
Arturo Coello and Bea González

The most recent team to confirm its participation in the first edition of Hexagon Cup is led by María Esteve and Carlos López-Lay, Puerto Rican business leaders in the world of motorsports and owners of the Bella Group. On the court, the Franchise players who will represent the colours of this team will be two great figures, Bea González and Arturo Coello. Bea, number five in the lists, has more than a dozen titles to her name, which has allowed the young girl from Malaga to become one of the great references in the world of padel. Arturo Coello, 21, is the current number one in the FIP ranking, being the youngest in history to achieve this milestone. In addition, he was World Champion in 2021. 

"It is an honor for us to play this first edition of Hexagon Cup and make history representing Puerto Rico, an island that has given the world great figures in sports and the arts. We thank Carlos López-Lay for counting on us. We assure you that we will go all out to win this cup," commented both players.

RL9 Team
Agustin Tapia and Ariana Sanchez

The RL9 Team, led by Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski, is flexing its ambition and will count among its ranks Ariana Sanchez and Agustin Tapia, both current number ones in the FIP ranking. Ari Sanchez has more than thirty titles to her credit, including two world team championships in 2021 and 2022. On the other hand, Tapia, known as the "Mozart of Catamarca", has just certified his leading position after his victory in Mexico last weekend. With this, the young Argentinean player now has more than twenty titles to his name.

Martín di Nenno and Delfina Brea

The team co-owned by the multiple Grand Slam champion Andy Murray and Arran Yentob and Dani Vallverdú of AD Global Sports has selected Martín di Nenno and Delfina Brea as Franchise players. The solid Argentine duo, settled in the top ten worldwide in their respective categories. For his part, di Nenno occupies the fourth place in the lists thanks to a great season which has included six titles, enabling him to fight until the last moment to reach the top. In addition, he holds the title of World Champion, thanks to his victory in Doha 2022. Delfi Brea, currently ranked sixth in the FIP ranking, has won five tournaments during this 2023, demonstrating her abilities and competitive standing. 

ElevenEleven Team USA
Fernando Belasteguín  and Paula Josemaría
Eva Longoria, renowned actress, director, businesswoman and activist, is the owner of this team, along with Dani Homedes of Dara Sport. For this first edition of Hexagon Cup, the duo have selected padel stars Fernando Belasteguín and Paula Josemaría as the team’s Franchise players. Paula Josemaría is the current number one in the FIP ranking and has a track record of thirty titles, including the World Team Championship, while Belasteguín (known in the circuit as "Bela"), is the current number nine in the rankings, and has led a legendary career, in which milestones such as six World Championships, or his streak of being number one in the world for thirteen consecutive years, stand out. 

An all-star tournament to take padel to another level

 

Born under the motto “For the Fans. For the Players. For the Game”, the Hexagon Cup is an innovative padel tournament that brings together male, female and Next Gen players (under 22 years of age). Everyone competes for an impressive €1 million prize, creating an exciting team competition and an exciting experience for players and fans.

Now that each team owner has selected the two franchise players who will serve as team captains, they will together select four remaining teammates; one man, one 

woman and two "next gen" male players during the Player Draft, taking place later this week. In a single decision, fans have had the final responsibility of choosing the players who will be part of the Hexagon Cup team. 

 

During the tournament itself, the six teams will be divided into two qualifying groups, competing in a series of exciting head-to-head matchups. Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the finals, where the inaugural Hexagon Cup champion will be crowned, with a prize pool of one million euros up for grabs.

Whilst six teams will feature in this first edition of the tournament, event organisers are keen to attract additional teams for future editions, providing more opportunities for the world’s top players to compete. 

For its first event, the Hexagon Cup will take over the country’s historic Madrid Arena from January 29 to February 4, creating a big show experience. This will include an engaging Fan Village filled with player autograph sessions, exhibition courts with matches from Next Gen players, live concerts and entertainment, shops, exhibitors, and top gastronomy offerings.
