Excitement on the court, excitement in the tribute.

By the Hexagon Cup team
3.2.2024

The third day of competition at the Hexagon Cup was full of excitement and spectacular padel. Today the teams were playing for a place in the semi-finals in the three categories (men's, women's and Next Gen). Among the big winners of the group stage was Andy Murray's team (AD/vantage Padel Team) who managed to get their three pairings into the semifinals of the tournament. The women's pairing and Murray's Next Gen team will face Eva Longoria's team (ElevenEleven Team USA) tomorrow in the semifinals.  There will also be a double semi-final clash (Next Gen and male) between the teams of Robert Lewandowski and the Rafa Nadal Academy Powered by Richard Mille.

Today we also experienced a very exciting moment in the last match of the day, with a packed centre court, the players making the corridor to a legend and the public devoted to receive a legend of world padel. More than 170 victories, 14 consecutive years as world number one, a streak of almost two years without losing and a repertoire of impossible shots, that's Juan Martin Diaz. El Galleguito received the affection of the entire Madrid Arena and the Hexagon Cup family in an emotional and well-deserved recognition in which he received the Marca Leyenda award from the hands of the director of the Marca newspaper, Juan Ignacio Gallardo. An emotional Juan Martin expressed his gratitude for the award and between tears he also remembered his partner Fernando Belasteguin: "Half of this award is yours".

Not content with the tribute received off the court, the Galleguito has given a show inside the 20x10. Paquito Navarro was out due to a viral process and was replaced by Momo Gonzalez with whom Juan paired up to take on Team Bella led by Arturo Coello and Coki Nieto. After the team victory the other day, the Hexagon Team only needed one set to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament. Juan and Momo jumped out determined and accelerated to win the first set 6-3. The objective was achieved and the qualification as first of the group was already assured. They ended up losing against a great pairing like Coello/Nieto but little else mattered. Juan will remain on court for at least one more day.

Numerous stars did not want to miss the tribute and made an appearance at the Madrid Arena: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Real Madrid goalkeeper, Raúl González, Fernando Morientes, Sergio Llull and Edy Tavares are some of the celebrities who have passed through the Madrid Arena. Speaking of stars, today one of them shone with her own light, Eva Longoria has been cheering and enjoying the spectacular day lived in the Hexagon Cup. As the owner of ElevenEleven Team USA, she didn't want to miss the event and has been cheering on the American team: "The Hexagon Cup is an incredible competition. I love the atmosphere it has created that mixes talent, rivalry, camaraderie, inclusivity and equality," said Eva enthusiastically about the project.

In the previous match, the Hexagon Team also won with Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo, who won 6-3, 6-2 against the Rafa Nadal Academy Powered by Richard Mille team, who suffered their first defeat of the tournament. Alejandra and Tamara will be looking for a place in the women's final against Bea Gonzalez and Claudia Fernandez.
